default printer problems

Every time I start my computer these days it gives me a dialogue box that
says "please wait while Windows configures your printer" and proceeds to
configure my old, secondary inkjet printer that I do not even have plugged
into my computer. I have my laser printer plugged into it and now have to
reset it as the default every time I turn on my computer. The only thing I
have done is re-install Adobe Acrobat 6, which had stopped working. I never
had the problem of the default printer resetting before when Acrobat worked
or when it stopped working. I am using Windows XP Pro. Thank you.

I don't want to uninstall it, as I sometimes use it for color printing and
scanning. Do I have to uninstall it to keep my laser printer as the default
and then reinstall it and uninstall it every time I want to use it? This
doesn't seem fair! I've had laptop for about 4 months (with Acrobat
installed), the laser for 6 months, and the inkjet for a few years, all
without problems until I had to do this re-install/repair on Acrobat. Should
I try to repair it again? The Acrobat resources are not helping at all. Oh,
and I am not networked in any way to anything. Thanks! A

The choice of whichever printer is set as default is often hard coded into
the printer drivers, in which case, you should contact the manufacturer of
the printer in question and see if they know of a way that their printer
will NOT set itself as default.
