Default MSPaint Save-to directory.

Use Print Screen alot.
When I cut-and-paste to Paint, and then
save, the default save directory is always
Documents and Settings, my logon,
My Documents, My Pictures.
I just wanna save my print screens in
a directory right off the C:\ drive.
Is it possible to set the default directory for
MSPaint?

I do not know if that is possible. Sorry.
Meanwhile, I suggest you acquire and use one of the many free or
paid screen capture utilities available. Nearly any of which will
give you your default Save location and many dozens of other great
features. Such as ability to capture active window, selected
region, menus, and on and on. Also to select the format in which
to save (other than BMP). I doubt you will ever go back. <G>

I have principally used one paticular screen capture utility that
works very well since Windows 95, however, I can't load any
software at work.

May you alter your registry? HKCU that is? Here it appears
MSPAINT (v5.0, W2k) always defaults to the "My Pictures" location
defined at,
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion
\Explorer\Shell Folders\
"My Pictures"=

(see also: User Shell Folders key)

Presumably one could alter this for your purpose, but be aware that
any and all other applications that use this data will be affected.
Ensure you have adequate registry backups in advance of any
editing.

If you are required to produce screen captures as part of the job,
ask the IT department for some decent and much more efficient
software to facilitate that requirement. Not just capture
utilities but also graphics "paint" utilities.

I'll make the changes @ home first.
I periodically (but not recently) back up the registry to a CD.

I work for a 1.7 Trillion (that's with a "T") dollar multi-national.
IT is not going to change anything, so I'll have to use RegEdit to change
the registry.
