Is it O.K. if device manager in XP lists my monitor as a
default monitor, instead of what it really is? I am
having some screen blanking problems, that last about a
second, and thought this may be part of the problem.
Thanks
John

Usually "default monitor" is just fine.

Screen blanking? Like when your screen changes resolution and the image
doesn't appear for a second? That's normal.

You will never get maximum performance, or the maximum screen resolution,
using the default monitor. Update your monitor drivers and video drivers.
Unless your monitor is more than a couple of years old, you should, at
least, be able to run the monitor as "plug and play". This will give you
more choices in the monitor setup section.

B.S...
I have as many options as I would have with my monitor drivers.
Don't confuse monitor with video card.

Ummm! B.S to you! Guess you have a shity video card or have never really
tried to optimize your system!

The refresh rate adjustment IS controlled by the monitor .inf file, not the
video drivers! Did you ever look at a flickering screen that is locked up on
a low rate due to using the default monitor? Using the ViewSonic .inf file I
can refresh at 120hz. Using the default monitor .inf I refresh at max of 75
hz.

And you're using XP?
Mine says "default monitor" and I can go past 75 Hertz. So there =P

And I never even *tried* to say that the refresh rate is controlled by
the video drivers (although they do limit it, as you say yourself, if
you have a "shitty video card" =P).
