Default mail program switches itself

I am using Outlook 2000 SP-3 for email. I had Outlook Express but changed
yesterday to Outlook. Every time I open Outlook it asks me if I want to make
Outlook my default mail client. I choose Yes, but it doesn't stick. I've
gone into Internet Explorer, Programs, and Outlook Express is set for default
mail, newsgroups, etc. I change everything to Outlook, click OK, and close
IE. When I open it up again, it has reverted back to OE. I've gone into the
Control Panel and selected Mail. There is only one profile there. I don't
know what else to try.
 
I never received a reply to this post. I now have another computer doing the
same thing. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
