I noticed when I doubled clicked the edit button while viewing a picture in
the Windows Picture and Fax Viewer, that the Paint Program comes up. The
only other picture editing program I have on this new PC so far is Microsoft
Picture It Express, so I went into the Windows Explorer and set up the file
association for JPG to Edit, where it should bring up that picture in
Picture It. Fouble clicking now opens the Picture It program but it opens
the picture "folder", not the specific picture that I want to edit at the
time.

What do I need to do differently in my setup of the file association, or is
this just a quirk of Microsoft Picture It Express software?

Thanks

You need to include the "%1" parameter in the File Types dialog.
Example, JPEG > Advanced > Edit > "pictureit.exe %1" or "mspaint.exe %1"

Ramesh, it has that in there already (the %1 parameter). But oh well, I
found another editor on my computer that behaves properly. anything is
better than having the paint program come up in that situation.

Thanks,

Actually I set it up this way and it worked right: "pictureit.exe" "%1"

The difference is I had to put the parenthesis around the exe file, and then
a separate set around the %1 part. Once I did that, it worked great.

At least you pointed me in the right direction.

Somewhere in this thread is the answer I am looking for, but need a little hand-holding. I, too, would like to change the editing program that opens up when I click the edit button in Windows Pic and Fax Viewer. How, exactly, do I do this? Thanks for your patience!

Hi,

To view an image using Picture and Fax Viewer and Edit using other software:

Go to Windows Explorer/Tools/Folder Options/File Types. Select an image
type (jpg). Click on Advanced then New. Name for Action type in: &Edit.
Under Application used to perform action: Browse to the
application/software. Set it as default. Ok your way out.

Hmmm - this doesn't quite work. When I get to "file types", I don't have an "advanced" button, and if I click "new" at this point, I'm not going in the right direction. Can't find Action" anywhere...
