Default for text box

When I try to format a text box and make the background white and the text black and check the box that says default for new objects the next text box that I insert has the original color scheme and not the new one that I selected (black on white
I am using Power Point XP and 2003 and both versions do same.

Try right-clicking the textbox and choosing "set autoshapes default." Does
that work?

I tried that but I still get the default text color and transparent background.

For the font color, you have to format the font the way you want (one
time), then go to Format/Fonts and select "default for new objects"
there.

To add a background color to that, right-click the textbox and choose
"set autoshape defaults."

Now comes the tricky part -- the background and lines you just set on
your textbox won't apply to new textboxes, but they will apply to new
autoshapes. So the next time you need a manual textbox, use the
rectangle on the drawing toolbar instead. Click it, click the slide,
then start typing.
