default folder display

I have the open windows with other programs besides explorer defaulting to
display in list mode.

In windows explorer, I have it set to display in details mode which is what I'd
like to have set as the default config for all programs.

I'm guessing it's a registry entry, but I can't find anything in the help and
support on how to change it from list to detail.
 
Open one of your folder and select list mode.
Click on Tools on your top bar and then on Folder options. Click on the View
tab and then set this view for all folders.
 
I think, no I know that's what I said. I'm not having the problem with
Explorer, or windows explorer. Just with OTHER programs that can open files
thru their own window. I have to change the view every time I use another
program.
The default view is LIST. I want it to default to DETAIL.

File> Open and File> Save use the list view. There's no way within the
operating system to change this that I know of.

I have been using a program from stardock.com called "Enhanced Dialogs"
that adds all kinds of customizations to these screens (including view
preference). However, it's available to Object Desktop users only at the
moment and has not matured to "official release" or standalone status. It
looks good though and I think it could fill various needs for many users.

It would seem to be that it is a registry entry. Trouble is I just can't find
it. it may be something like (1234AZDEH0009OVWZ786) which means little except
maybe to Vbasic, ,C++, etc..

This is for Explorer. It has no effect on Agent mail reader, Videowave, WSFTP,
etc..
It's just a pain to have it open in list view and have to toggle to detail,
then CTRL + to get the columns in view.

If it was that easy, it would be listed at every tweak site on the
internet. The common control files create and dictate how these dialog
boxes appear. Programs can provide and create their own or use the default
dialogs provided by Windows. If you do a google search on this, David Candy
has written quite a few informative posts on the topic.
