I've got WinXP Pro and the My Computer icon and My Document icon are
transposed that is, the My Documents aligns before My Computer when I
autoarrange by name. Is there a way to change the 'characteristics' of the
My Documents so that it comes after My Computer as it has in past versions
of Windows?

TweakUI.

TweakUI | Click the [+] Next to Desktop | Click: First Icon

First Icon
[[This allows setting the first icon on the desktop to be either “My
Documents” or “My Computer”. This is a per-system setting, available only if
the current user has permission to alter the “My Computer” settings. After
changing the setting, the user may need to select “Arrange By Name” from the
desktop context menu for the change to take effect. Some applications will
not respond to the new setting until you log off and back on. ]]

This key does the same thing as First Icon in TweakUI...
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\CLSID\{450D8FBA-AD25-11D0-98A8-0800361B1103}
Value Name: SortOrderIndex
Data Type: REG_DWORD
Value Data: 0x48 or 0x54
0x48 = My Documents first
0x54 = My Computer first

You can do many other things with TweakUI.

Download TweakUI here...

exposed in the Windows XP default user interface, including

Wesley,
I appologize for not answering sooner but I did get TWEAKUI. I found the
setting to change the icons and I now have 'all my ducks in a row'. I don't
know why Microsoft had this setting with My Documents first and My Computer
second. I'm using MS XP Pro upgrade and maybe it's different from other
versions of XP or 'one hand didn't know what the other was doing' when MS
released my version.
Thanks again.
