Default Date() will not show in form

I have a database created in Access 97 and converted to
Access 2002. It is a very simple database with a form to
enter new records. The date field has a default of "=Date
()" which worked fine before converting the database to
2002 but now returns "#name?" in that field. The format
of the field is Medium Date. If I use the "=Now()"
default it does work but for my purposes I only want the
date.

Does anyone have any clues how to fix this?

The machine may have a missing reference.
Open any module in Design view.
On the Tools menu, click References.
Click to clear the check box for the type library or object library
marked as "Missing:."

An alternative to removing the reference is to restore the referenced
file to the path specified in the References dialog box. If the
referenced file is in a new location, clear the "Missing:" reference
and create a new reference to the file in its new folder.
