Never did get an answer to my question as to how to set the default columns
in Server 2003. Just got my subscription for Technet upgraded to Technet
Plus. Hopefully those newsgroups will get me an answer to these nagging
problems that no one can help with. And then maybe not.... I guess i am
the only person on here with that problem. charlie

We are mostly volunteers here, you know? :)

Besides, your question is not all that clear. So, reading between the lines,
I think what you are trying to do is:

Open Active Directory Users and Computers
Click on "View"
Add/Remove Columns
Add the columns you'd like to see

Close ADUC when you are done. Answer yes to save the settings - if asked.
Next time you open ADUC, this will be your "default" view.

Apologies, if this is not what you are asking.

Yes, that is what i was asking but i am never given the opportunity to save
the settings and when i again use the plugin, everything is like at the
beginning. I will see if i am missing something somewhere. On windows 2000
server it would save my settings but on the Windows 2003 server i am not
succeeding. Hope this makes it clearer. charlie

OK, this is strange. Maybe i should have mentioned that this Windows Server
2003 is also running Exchange 2003. Bringing up the console in mmc /a mode
did bring up the 'do you wish to save' box but when i answer yes, it says
that the 'users and computers' was created with an earlier version of mmc
than 2.0 and then asks if i wish to convert it. I answer 'yes' but it says
' mmc failed to save' or 'cannot save', something to that effect. Now what
do i need to do? And thank you for your assistance. This is farther than
i got before. charlie

Hello Charlie,

does "Save As" from the file menu, select a file name, and using that file name
in the future provide you with the results intended?

Gruesse - Sincerely,

OK, Save As using a new name gives me the same messages about the conversion
and then says 'MMC is not able to save the console". If i don't get a reply
here i will open a new message with the information. Will also check with
technet to see if there are any solutions... charlie
