Is the drive FATx or NTFS. If FATx, then the built-in defragmenter won't be
able to defragment it

An individual file size might cause a problem. I would not expect a folder
with sub-folders to be listed. What are the individual files and how large
is the largest and how large is the smallest listed?
How many characters in the file name and how long are the paths? Have you
any unusual characters in the file name?
Have you tried to run Disk Defragmenter a second and third time? Does it
reduce the number of fragments.

Why do you ask? Is My Computer slow to display folders with there being a
gyrating torch until they do display?
