Def update dysfunction

Having no previous experience with Win Defender, I installed vs 1.1.1347.
Clicking the "Check Now" box for new definitions had no effect. The same goes
for "Help>About>Check For Updates". I had the impression that in both
instances no connection to the internet was made. Finally, MS Update
informed me than no essential updates were available.
So I uninstalled this piece of crap and will revert to my previous
anti-spyware. - Louis

One way to get experience is reading this posts.

Next time, go to Windows Update, do an Express scan, and apply all offered
updªtes
http://update.microsoft.com

There are many pre-requisite files which are needed from windows update and
signature update with windows defender will fail until you have these files.

I did! MSU said 'there are no essentail updates available'. To me, that
means my system is fully updated whereas WinDefender is yelling that my
definitions haven't been updated in 78 days.

In view of the massive amount of problems reported here, I think it best to
refrain from installing any beta vs of this appl and use good old
Spybot&AdAware instead. Tx for the advice anyhow - best. Louis
