I received notice that my XP is counterfeit. I bought it already loaded on a
second-hand pc. Until about 3 months ago, I had the pc in storage for two
years. Suddenly, a month after using again, I'm told I have counterfeit. How
can it suddenly be counterfeit? I contacted MS but was told I'm not eligible
for the freebie, as the XP CD isn't with the rest of the CD's I received with
the pc. I don't have the sticker, either. So now, I suppose, I am going to
have to buy an XP CD. But why is it only now identified as counterfeit?

This newsgroup is for Microsoft .NET programming questions, not general
Windows questions.

Having said that, you didn't indicate that who told you that your copy of XP
was counterfit, which is kind of important. Unless it was reported by the
Windows Genuine Authentication software tool, I'd say whoever told you it
was bad is wrong.

Or, it was bad all along, but you only downloaded the Genuine Authentication
software tool recently and just now are discovering it.
