I performed a disk clean up and compressed old files and
I am now experiencing decreased performance. I searched
and cannot find out to decompress those files. Microsoft
tells me how to compress but not how to reverse it.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

You could try a system restore and go back to date before
this.I would not check compress old files when performing
disk cleanup. Also,it could be that what your
experiencing is new temp and cookie files being
established. Also after disk cleanup you should check
volume for errors and defrag....Good luck.

Thanks for the reply. I have addressed the cookies & temp files, and did a restore, I may not have gone back far enough though. I'll look into that. One thing I forgot to mention, is my History folder is acting flaky. Reviewing the properties shows 100+ folders, 30+ files and 4 meg in size yet they will not appear in the explorer window. I tried to "unhide" it, change the "read-only" designation and even tried to delete it (but XP said it was a required file and wouldn't let me do that) to no avail. I noticed it about the time of the file compression, that is why I was thinking along the lines of uncompressing the files. I've seen a couple postings about editing registry files, but I am not comfortable with doing that
