Deciphering Blue Screen Error Messages

I have an almost 5 year old Dell Dimension XPS 8200, running XP Home SP2, 1
GB Ram, 2 physical hard drives, ATI Radeon 9800. In the past couple of weeks
I've began getting intermittiant Blue Screen shutdowns under various
conditions and two different error messages.

What's typically happened is that I will hear one of the hard drives
accessing something, then whatever window is open on the screen will freeze
but the cursor will still move. Then I get a quick BSOD, followed by an
immediate attempt to restart - where I get a black screen and am informed
that neither hard drive is recognized:

primary hard disk drive 0 - not found
primary hard disk drive 1 - not found
keyboard not found

At this point pressing CON-ALT-DEL will usually restart the machine
successfully, often it takes several attempts then the machine will run fine
until this repeats.

I disabled "auto restart" so as to view the Blue Screen error message. The
first one (immediately below) is the one I have gotten most often
The second one is the most recent one;

*** STOP: 0x000000F4
(0x00000003, 0x85038DA0, 0x85038F14, 0x805F9F88)

The second message;

KERNAL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR

*** STOP: 0x0000007A
(0xE17FF768, 0xc000000E, 0xBF91640E, 0x28F50860)

*** WIN32k.sys Address 0xBF91640E base at BF800000, datestamp 422511a2

I ran the Microsoft Online Crash Analysis - windiag and it reports that all
memory is working properly.

So from deciphering these error messages, can anyone point me in any
direction toward resolving this ?

Thanks so much.

But it seems the cause of those errors are many.
You tested the RAM, if you have multiple sticks, try removing/swapping out
but making sure to stay above the Windows XP minimum.
Reseat the video card.

Is the C drive Master or Slave?

Those three error messages (drives and keyboard not found) indicate a
hardware problem of some kind, most likely a defect in the motherboard
although a weak/failing power supply could produce the same symptoms
under some conditions. Another possible cause could be fluctuations
in the power line voltage, such as a drop to near-brownout conditions.

Given the age of the machine I would suspect the hardware (motherboard
or power supply) and be prepared for a total failure at any time in
the future.

Is there any pattern to these boot failures? Do they ever happen when
the machine is being started up cold, or just when the machine has
been running for a while and is then restarted? Is there any
correlation between the length of time the machine has been running
and the probability of it not restarting on the first attempt?

Good luck
