Deciphering Asus BIOS Revisions

Steve Sr.

I just put together a P4C800E system and was wondering if I needed to
update the BIOS to the most recent good version 1010. I know 1011 is
out but too many have reported issues with it.

How do I know what version is in the MB currently? Inside the BIOS
setup utility shows:

Version: 08.00.09
Build Date: 7/21/03

How does this number correspond to the Asus 10xx series?

The 1010 BIOS that I downloaded has a date of 7/23/03 which is only 2
days after the one currently in the MB. So they apparently had a
revision only 2 days apart! Hard to believe.

If the BIOS is shown on the boot screen it flys by to fast to read it.
Is there any way to pause the screen during boot to allow seeing the
BIOS messages before they scroll off the screen?

Thanks,

Steve

If you install the AsusUpdate utility from the Motherboard CD, it can read
your BIOS as well, not just flash it.

Mine shows :
Model: P4C800-E
Version: 1010.004
Chipset: I875P
Date: 07/21/2003-14:21:47
Onboard Sound: None (woa)
Onboard Lan: Exist (wl)
BIOS Size: 512K BIOS Type: AMI

Just install asusupdate and use the 'Check BIOS Information' pulldown and
press next, voila!

Yup. Press the PAUSE button on your keyboard. Press ESC to let it
continue.

Jonny,

Thanks or the tip. I thought there was a way to do this but the Scroll
Lock key didn't do it. I guess I was only off by 1 key!

The bios revision is shown on the opening screen and my board was
already at 1010. I don't know what that info is that is displayed
inside BIOS setup.

You can also do this from the "System Tools" then "System Information" on
that it lists the BIOS for you.
