Decimal problems in Excel 2008 (Mac)

I recently installed Office 2008 on a

Macintosh PowerPC G5 Dual 2 GHz with 2 GB memory
OS X 10.5.5

In Excel, unless I explicitly type a decimal point after entering a number,
Excel divides the number by 10, so that if I enter 1, I get 0.1. This happens
in a new workbook, with no formatting in the cells. It's real annoying.

Oddly enough, the number entry works correctly on my MacBook with an Intel
processor running 10.5.5.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Look in the options or maybe preferences on a Mac, make sure you clear the
check mark from fixed decimal places
You have it set to 2.

On a windows machine it's under tools>options>edit
