When I visit some sites I receieve a message "error found do you want to
Debug". I have recently had a big clean up as I got infected with adware
and now I am wondering if I have deleted something I shouldn't have, like a
component of Java or something like that. Can anybody advise?

Hi Angela,

it's not unusal to get lots of script errors when browsing the web, because
many web designers don't have a clue about correct cross-browser scripting.
By default IE is set up to simply ignore these errors. Probably these
settings got changed during the clean up.
In order to restore your settings:
In Internet Properties go to the "Advanved" Tab. Look for the entries
"Disable script debugging" (turn this on) and "Display a notification about
every script error" (turn this off)

Thanks Ralf, that seems to do the trick!
