Hi =?Utf-8?B?UmljayBN?=,
Is there a way to open Word in a debug mode? We are having difficulty
with network documents opening up extremely slow and no we're not using
Norton AV. We'd like to know where it is hanging. Perhaps it's try to
install some addins, or other components. Perhaps there's cache or temp
file problem. Perhaps there's a problem with accessing a global normal.dot
file. Perhaps it's a problem with mapped drives as opposed to UNC pathed
file access. Regardless, this problem has turned real ugly now because now
we are experiencing file locking issues because of the delay opening a
doc.It would help if you'd tell us the VERSION of Word under discussion?
Closest to a debug mode in Word would be to use the /a switch to start it
with the installation defaults.
One common cause of slow document opening is when there's difficulty
accessing the ATTACHED TEMPLATE (as in Tools/Templates and Addins). Take a
look at the path of such a document, once it's open. Is the path valid? Is
it on the network, or local? If you delete this (so that Word will attach
the document to the profile's Normal.dot template), save and close does
the file open more quickly?
