deadlock and unusual error

Hi there,
I have following errors below during a backup of a terminal 2000
server(file server only)
in server event viewer:
Event ID 26 in system log
Application popup: Windows - EXCEPTION : Possible deadlock condition.

event ID: 57476 in application log
The operating system returned an unusual error while backing up the
following file:...
What could be the problem?
