Friend bought a used Epson color 777 printer to replace his current Epson
777.

It makes all the right noises but doesn't print at all.

He even did the print page test (with the printer disconnected from the
computer) and only a blank page came up. He had some spare cartridges and
got same with those.

Is there anything else he should try? Is there any specific part it could be
that he could take out of his old printer and put into the new printer?

Hmmm,
Buying something used without even trying it out?

Most probably the head has clogged particularly if it has been sitting idle for
some time.
The good news is that Epson printheads can usually be recovered.

Tell him the printer model, what the symptoms are and request a copy of his
Epson printhead cleaning manual.
Art will not charge you or spam you. Just give him a day or two as he is very
busy.

Between the two of them, I suspect at least one, if not both can be
brought back to life.
