Dead Ethernet port

Wonder how common these are? My current AMD-64 system is but a few
months old. Tonight while downloading files the system quit. Did the
usual things of trying to redo the network settings, etc. Confirmed IP
was up by connecting to other computer also connected via the router.
Being dual boot tried the other OS. Still no connection.

Reached into my spare parts drawer for an Ethernet card. Back online.
Curious if these are common events or maybe something more limited to my
MSI K8N Neo2 motherboard?

anything could happen with a MSI board...I would look into the cmos and see
if the damn thing disabled your lan port

Now I'm even more curious. After getting home from work I decided to
try it again. Booted right up and connected immediately as though
nothing had ever happened. Yet last night it didn't matter whether I
was using Linux or XP it would not connect.

Hmmm, can they overheat during long downloads?

How hot is it getting in there? As good a theory as any.
