I went into user accounts and unchecked the box so that I won't constantly be
prompted for permissions and restarted the computer... I still have the
stupid permission window popping up even though I checked and the user
account is unchecked.
What do I do now to get rid of the permissions windows popping up every time
I want to change something???

Hello,

- Click start
- Type: msconfig
- Press enter
- Click the tools tab
- Find "Disable UAC" in the list
- Click on it
- Click the Launch button
- Click OK
- Restart your computer

See if that helps.

so far seems to have worked, but I did this before and somehow it defaults to

Oh well, restarted my machine and guess what UAC is back... went into user
controls and the box remains unchecked but the damn messages still pop up.
seems I have to disable this every time I start vista. what a pain in the
a##. when it works it works great, but when its bad, its really bad.....

Are you sure you are seeing UAC prompts, and not some other type of prompt?

UAC prompts are only the ones that black out the screen and say (in blue
or grey) "Windows needs your permission to continue" or (in yellow) "An
unidentified program wants access to your computer".

yes, if you go into control panel and try to access something up pops a
window asking permission to open it.

when I deactivate UAC nothing pops up, but once I shut down and restart, UAC
is on and windows pop up.

It sounds like there is some program on your computer that is resetting
the setting.

Windows does not do this automatically, although it does display a
bubble popup telling you that UAC is disabled, and if you click on the
bubble, it will turn UAC back on.

Do you have any security software installed that monitors system
settings for changes? You might check into those programs and see if
they are changing the setting back.

just use avg and adaware and adwatch but these alert me to changes as they
happen
