I defrag my harddisk everyday for 30mins. (The harddisk is
actually continuously working hard for the full 30
minutes.) I wanted to know if I'm doing more damage to the
harddisk by defragging like this everyday or should I
defrag maybe once a week or once a month? I mean if I don't
defrag, I estimate the harddisk only works hard (e.g. hdd
needle moving wildly back and forth) for maybe a couple
mins maximum at a time, allowing the hdd some cooling and
rest. This is versus the 30mins daily that the hdd is
doing. A harddisk working continuously for a full 30mins or
more would seem to create a lot of heat...and heat coupled
with the needle's wild back&forth movement would seem very
bad for the wear of hdd.
What do you think?
