Hello everybody,

I have a DDS2 drive, C1533A-00450 and I need to
upgrade firmware.
How can I do that?

With HP Storage Works (L&TT) he tells me, "wrong
personality" for what ever firmware file I have.

Is there any way to upgrade with the "factory
override" password?

Where do I get that?

Help urgently appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Michael.

Michael,

Is the CPU the tape drive hooked to connected
to the internet? If so, and you allow it, LTT
will download the current version for the drive
and then install it.

Hi Jim,

I tried that procedure already, it does not work.
He displays me not a single firmware file. I downloaded
everything that ends with .frm from the hp-ftp-server and
put in manually in the firmware directory.

then l&tt tells me "wrong personality"...

I do not know why, but the best would be to get
into restricted mode or to have the factory
override password.

Best regards,
Michael.

There's two versions of the C1533A. The earlier one, which I have, will
only take firmware files up to version "9608" which is the last release
(08/15/1996).

The later drive takes firmware files in the format "Axxx" and the last
file available for that is A907 (10/01/1999).

The firmware files are not interchangeable between drives, which is why
you're getting the "wrong personality" error.

Hello,

I now made it to upgrade the drive to Version 9608.
Anyway, the drive doesn´t work properly.
It always tells me, error after rewinding tape.

any suggestions?

bye, michael.

What software are you using?

1. Try another tape.

2. Run a cleaning tape.

3. Try running the "Dr Tape" diagnostic in NovaBack (www.novastor.com)

4. If you can boot the machine to Linux, try writing a few files to tape
with tar: "tar -cv -f /dev/st0 ." then "mt -f /dev/st0 rewind" then "tar
-tv -f /dev/st0"
