Ddr3

Oh right well I reckon right now it is not worth it. I read that you could get DDR2 memory that can out perform current DDR3 memory.

The reason I ask is I was wondering what DDR3 will hold for the future.
I reckon I will get a DDR2 motherboard but I was hoping that the DDR2 motherboards would drop in price just like CPUs for the new X58 chipset that is due to come out in September.

I have got my case but the rest is still all in the making. :)

That is a good idea. :)

However (isn't there always one for me) how about getting a board that is purely DDR3 and going down to 2GB of RAM?
I would also be sacrificing a slot of RAM too.

Surely this would be about the same price as getting purely DDR2 board and 4GB of RAM.

Well I remember my very first PC build I used a board that had 2 SD RAM slots and 2 DDR RAM slots. It was a good idea back then.

p.s

DDR3 SD RAM is there some sort of significance for having "SD" written in there?

Like for instance is DDR2 written DDR2 "SD" RAM.

Nope. Right now DDR3 RAM is expensive, DDR2 RAM is cheap.

And as at time of posting, relatively few benefits to be had from using DDR3 RAM.

In fact, I wonder if there ever will be.

Yes indeed at this time of posting there does not appear to be so many benefits.

DDR2 is performing at around the same speed or DDR3. BUT for the future DDR3 will get faster and it will definetly outclass DDR2.

I am still using DDR1 who wants to know about DDR1? I am using PC3200 I think it is 333mhz how crap is that? It was just a thought in my mind about future proofing this system. If I get a DDR2 board today in around 5-6 months, most boards will be DDR3. I know you will say but that always happens with technology but I **** you not. I haven't head jack about DDR4 YET! :)

I have just read this review from AnandTech:

http://www.anandtech.com/memory/showdoc.aspx?i=2989&p=1

Read the conclusion at the end and see what they wrote in there.
DDR3 is for the future.

Why not, if you have too much money?? :)
ddr3's performance is better, it needs less power, the only disadvantage is price, which with time will go down as well..
I just checked the prices. The price difference is drastic, but imho it's only a matter of time until people will switch to ddr3.

I wouldn't bother getting DDR2 memory when DDR is cheaper and faster ...
