DDR2 limitations

-Hi everyone,

I recently installed a new AM2 4800+ with 4GB of RAM on an ASUS M2N-E
(suppose to be very stable motherobard). Everything works great except
when I have the 4GB of RAM in the board -- Windows doesn't want to load
(ntkrnlmp.exe refuses to load). If I remove one of my 1GB DDR2 800Mhz
DIMM
(http://www.newegg.com/Product/CustratingReview.asp?item=N82E16820220142),
things work just fine (although it falls into single-channel mode).

The funny thing is that when I run Memtest86+ with the full 4GB of RAM,
no errors. Do you all know if this is a common problem or do I need to
tweak my BIOS to not use "Auto" for all the memory settings? I thought
64-bit wouldn't have memory stick bugs like before. hmm..

Might try clearing the bios.
Remove bios battery jumper (JP1?) and unplug main power cord from back of
computer, wait 30 seconds,
then plug main power cord back in and put bios jumper back in place.
Bios will be in default mode, boot computer, go back into bios, set bios the
way you want it.

Try upping the voltage on the RAMs a bit. The BIOS should tell you what
the safe range is, put the voltage near the top of the safe range.
 
Isn't the problem due to Xps limitation of 2 Gigs?

check if there is a new bios out to address the issue.
otherwise, go with 4gb but relax the speed down a level. many boards can't
run full speed with maxed out ram.
I don't think it's windows, cause even with the limitation it will run, it
just won't use that ram to it's full potential, but to test the theory give
a 64 bit OS a try.

And it's barely worth crying over dual channel.
I'm curious to see how to resolve this though, keep us posted.
