Not really seeking advice... just wanting to know if anyone else has had
this happen......

I am doing some documentation and just wanted to refresh my mind as to
exactly what screens appeared when running DCPROMO to demote a server. So
when it asked for network credentials for a user with Enterprise Admin
rights I just typed in some random letters for the username and password.
Knowing full well that this was not a user on my domain. Anyway kept going
through the screens and then the demotion process actually started! I
couldn't believe it!. So I quickly stopped it from running..... thinking how
much harm can it do... it was only running for about 2 minutes and it wasn't
even a proper username and password that I entered..... WRONG!!!!

Once rebooted, my server is now in a workgroup and is no longer a Domain
controller!

Doesn't really matter because it is only my test environment, so it hasn't
done any harm.

But I just can't get over the fact that so much damage could be caused.....
even when an invalid username was entered.

Anyone else experienced this?

Cheers

DNS issue. Almost always a DNS issue.

Dynamic DNS == on
Server and ALL DCs using THAT dynamic DNS system
in their client properties -- including the DNS server if it's
a DC.

Restart the NetLogon service if you have to correct these
settings.
