Dcpromo to cause services.exe to crash with status code 128 - unable to promote DC

I recently tried to rename my main domain controller

- Installed a new server and transfered FSMO roles on it and made it the Global Catalog Server, then synchronized active directory
- Demoted the main DC then renamed it

And now I am stuck... It is impossible to re-promote it. Everytime I run dcpromo the system "encounters a unexpected shutdown". The msgBox says

....Services.exe terminated unexpectedly with status code 128... bla bla bla... This system will shutdown in ..

Any idea?
