I want to rebuild the first domain controller in my
domain - I now have 2 DC's. This is a DC that was
upgraded from NT. It currently holds all FSMO roles.
Will using the DCPROMO process automatically transfer the
FSMO roles to the other DC?

Thanks in advance,
Dan

Yes, It will transfer to the first DC who responds back for that particular
role. Since you only have one other DC, it is safe to say that DC will get
the roles. You will want to promote the other DC to be a GC well before the
demotion because that "role" is not transfered.

Here are some articles that may help if you choose to transfer manually now
or in the future:

Hope That Helps!
