I new one on me this.
We had a system crash which meant replacing a W2K server
with a fresh install with new disks to the same server.
There is one other server running AD. We joined the newly
installed PC to the AD domain and then used dcpromo to
promte and everything seemed to be good, no error
messages, users could logon, print etc.
However we are getting error 16650 which relates to RID
Set which is missing from the object pool (verfied by ADSI
Edit as the article descibes on page 4 'Verify that the
RID Master .........').
The solution is to demote the server and run dcpromo
again. This didn't work and I appear to have no where
else to go.
Help!!!

When you replaced the DC with the new one, did you name the new DC with a
different name? If so, you probably have metadata from the old server still
hanging around in the directory. That being the case, try running a
Metadata cleanup.
