DCOM Error.

Ive been having this problem for a while. I'll be doing what ever and my
computer will do a hardshut down like the power just went out. I finnally
decide to check my error log and this is what I get.

DCOM got error "The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled
or because it has no enabled devices associated with it. " attempting to
start the service usnjsvc with arguments "" in order to run the server:
{98AC5C33-EE18-4EC2-BE25-3B16EE8F75F1}

I tried looking up everything, and the windows site wasnt much help. Can
anyone tell me how to fix this problem so I can return to normal CPU life?

The class id inside the brackets may correspond to a module that is
referenced in the Windows registry. Do a "find" for that string, including
the brackets inside Registry Editor. Are you sure that is the only DCOM
error that is occurring, or are there more than one different class ids? You
may have to uninstall or reinstall something or unregister and reregister a
".dll".
 
Ok, I did the find in the registry it brought me to two different folders.
The First folder was named:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{98AC5C33-EE18-4EC2-BE25-3B16EE8F75F1}
In that folder were two others, but the main folder held this info. Which
came up.
(Default) REG_SZ MSN USNSVC
AppID REG_SZ {7178B45D-568D-4024-95FC-BC564C34542E}

The second folder was named:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Microsoft.MSN.MCC.USNJSVC.1
With CLSID under it. In that folder had this:
(Default) REG_SZ {98AC5C33-EE18-4EC2-BE23-3B16EE8F75F1}

I continued on searching doing "Find Next" But it kept taking me to the
folders that had the simmilar "MSN.MCC.USNJSVC.1" But what do I do with this
information?
 
Forgot to answer your question regaurding if its the only error that is
comming up. As to that yes. I checked my event viewer and that is the only
error comming up, No application failures or hangs. Just the DCOM error. It
comes up about 3 times before my computer restarts like the power went out.

Okay, now you know what module is associated with the error, but you don't
know what it is yet. The "msn" part may be a clue. I would try doing an
online search for that string "msn usnsvc" and see what, if anything,
returns. Just offhand do you have msn software installed on your system? You
may have to ask MSN what their module is for if it is not part of Windows XP
per se.

My Event Viewer was giving me the same DCOM message, and an error message
about "DHCP" for a week! I finally went into Control Panel>Network Setup
Wizard and followed pocedures there. My system is now working great! Hope
is works for you.
