OS: Windows 2000 Server SP4
Exchange is NOT installed
Single server environment. 5 workstations. No major
network traffic. Server is used as a file and print
server.
I get 100's of these error daily. The server worked fine
for several months and then these errors began. I do not
recall any programs or changes that would have started
this other than windows updates. The computer listed in
the error message is sometimes a computer that never even
existed on the network. For instance we had a computer
named group05 but in the error message the computer will
be GRGroup05. However sometimes the computer is Group05 or
anyone of our other 5 PCs. 290512 823159
All clients and server are using TCP/IP. No other
protocols.

Event Type: Error
Event Source: DCOM
Event Category: None
Event ID: 10009
Date: 4/7/2004
Time: 5:34:40 PM
User: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM
Computer: FILESERVER
Description:
DCOM was unable to communicate with the computer GRGroup05
using any of the configured protocols.

Thanks for your help

I don't want to trivialize this issue I really don't mean it to be but maybe:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;300986&Product=win2000

I did a search in the Microsodft Knowledge Base under Windows 2000 with search words, "unable to communicate" w/o the quotes. There were a few things that came up but hard to say what your issue is. The protocol error message could be just the DCOM server you are using (dll) is not set up for remote access???
