After applying the recent security patches to my office's PCs, I ran the scan app to be sure I didn't miss any. I was surprised to see that all of my W2k machines had DCOM disabled. I double-checked to be sure that they were virus free, which they are, so I figured that perhaps one of the VB applications may have somehow disabled DCOM. So I installed them one at a time on a clean W2k box, checking the DCOM setting after each install. After all apps were installed DCOM was still enabled.
Other than the recent virus, does anyone know how DCOM can become disabled? I know that none of the staff did it because (1) they don't know how, and (2) they don't have the rights.
Thanks in advance.
