DCHP not enabled on ICS host

I've run the wizard on both of my computers connected on a
LAN with a switch and set one computer as ICS host and the
other as client. The TCP/IP properties dialog box shows
the host as having a static IP of 192.168.0.1 as expected
and the client PC has the "assign dynamic IP" button
selected. I cannot get either computer to see the other.
When I run ipconfig /all I see that DHCP is NOT enabled on
the host computer and IS enabled on the client computer.
Shouldn't this be reversed? If so, how do I enable DHCP on
the host computer? Shouldn't this have happened
automatically? The DHCP service is running, I've checked
in the services control panel.

Hi Peter,

The results you are seeing in ipconfig are correct. IPconfig shows if the
machine is using a DCHP enabled IP address or not. It does not indicate
whether it has a DHCP server service running.
Concenring the real problem - what IP address does the client machine show
in its ipconfig? It should be in the 192.168.1.x range. If it is not, there
may be a connectivity issue betwen the client and host - check network
cables, hub/switches and network cards.

there is a difference between a dhcp server and a dhcp client
a dhcp server(on a host) should have it's IP statically assigned in
all cases.
enabling DHCP on the host computer defeats the purpose of ICS so you'd
have to uninstall ICS and set the adapter to use automatic
configuration.

Dont you mean "it should be in the 192.168.0.x range" ?
