I made a boo boo. I forgot to remove two test BDC names from my NT domain
before I upgraded to AD. Now I have two servers listed under Domain
Controllers in Active Directory Users and Computers. Both computers no
longer exist, they were just for testing purposes. I created them, then
placed them on their own network so I could practice upgrading to Win2K and
AD. I then wiped them out.
I tried following directions for DC removal, and tried Knowledge Base
Article - 216498. I deleted the first server in ADSI from OU=Domain
Controllers. It deleted just fine. Now when I try to remove it from AD Users
and Computers I get the error "Directory Object Cannot be Found". I though
to use ntdsutil, but I haven't figured out the domain and site numbers yet.
I'm not even sure if I need to go that route. There are no entries for the
non-existent DC's in DNS.
Can anybody point me in the right direction? I have only tried to remove one
of the servers. The other is still untouched so far.
Also, are there any search tools to hunt AD for references to a computer
name?
Thanks for any help,
Steve Gould
