Hi,

I've ran into a problem where one of my domain controllers
is completely toast. I'd like to decomission it, but I
can't just boot it up and dcpromo because the motherboard
is 100% nonfunctional. It is an older server, so replacing
the board isn't an option. I can't seem to find anything
on the KB, I'm not really sure what the appropriate
approach would be to decomission this machine now.

Any input \ experience with this would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
JA

You'll have to do four steps to delete it:

1. Delete metadata with ntdsutil
2. Delete the computer from Sites and Services
3. Change UserAccountControl attribute in ADSI Edit from 8192 to 4096
4. Delete computer account in Users and Computers

I know there's Knowlege Base articles on all of these steps. The one for
step #3 is at http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;328775

You could try http://support.microsoft.com?kbid=216498
