DC demotion question

I head a DC that held the FSMO roles. I put a new DC into production and
transferred the FSMO roles to it and them proceeded to demote the old DC.
Everything went fine and is working ok, but during the demotion of the old
DC, at one point the DCPROMO wizard gave me an information message about
transferring the remaining AD data was being transferred to the new DC.

Can any one tell me what this "remaining data" could have been?

I know for sure that all the FSMO roles head been transferred before the
demotion and the old DC was not a GC holder, nor a DNS server. Was it what
is referred to as the DC meta data?

It was making sure there were no changes on the DC being demoted that
haven't been replicated to the new DC.

No, it probably just meant it was finishing the promotion without making you
wait
(a feature of DCPromo.)

In a single domain forest every DC should be a GC.

You do need to arrange for DNS, and in a small domain, the generally easier
(and best) way is to have every DC running (AD Integrated) DNS.
