Hello,

I am inquiring about the best way to go about adding other servers to AD DC

I have four servers and I am thinking about promoting one to an AC DC
because of the many sharing needs I am needing now and remote storage for the
web server apps on the file server.

I have done this in the past joining one server to the other that was a DC
but it was strange as both accounts are Administrators and the mangement for
adding share permissions was very differnet than that of adding an XP client
machine.

I need to know it there is a specific way to get cohesive here instead of
all workgroup servers?

Thanks very much
Joe

Sorry about the lack of info in the last post.

All servers are Server 2003 Ent.

Thanks
Joe

Hi Joe,
When you promote a server to a DC, there will be no local accounts, only
Active Directory (domain) accounts.
But when you join a server to an Active Directory domain (as a member
server) you can log on to that server either by using local accounts, either
by using domain accounts. You can have more than one DC per domain; you can
promote another server as an additional DC for this domain (this is highly
recommended, for redundancy).
I think that everything you need to know about AD is here:
