Can i use 'Ghost' s/w to perform backup on DC?
It is much faster to restore everything back to normal from 'Ghost' s/w if
anything happen to the DC.

Sounds nice, but it doesn't work. Since AD is a multimaster database and
there is multiple copies, if you do a restore via ghost the rerplication
partners (Other DC's) won't know that the system has been restored and won't
provide changes to this dc since the ghosting.

See USN rollback for additional details:

the easiest way in this case you will give a ton of troubles. DO NOT EVER
USE IMAGES/SNAPSHOTS TO BACKUP DCs. The only way to backup and restore AD is
to use a supported AD aware backup/restore app.

When you backup data the system needs to be put in a state that has it rady
to be backed up, such as all buffers have been flushed. Active Directory
now uses Technology similar to Volume Shadow Service (VSS) now available in
2003. Follow Jorge link and it will go into details and yes vendors such as
Veritas (Who I believe provided Microsoft with the VSS Technology) can be
used as backup vendor.
