I tried that tool once. Then I learned that I could just highlight
messages
in OEs folders and drag them to an explorer's folder. It worked better
than
DBXtract in naming the files I thought.

DBXtract's main value is in recovering emails (or messages) from OE folders
where the folder is corrupt and OE won't open it.

Anyone know of a similar tool for Outlook PST files?

Microsoft have an Inbox Repair Tool for Outlook. Search their site. Make
a backup of the PST file before you attempt any repairs.

Thanks, but ScanPST is unable to detect a problem in the file though
Outlook is unable to read the database. Was hoping there was a tool
around that could extract e-mails out of a PST in much the same manner
as DBXtract does for OE.

Sorry, Inbox repair has worked for me anytime I needed it and I don't know
of another tool.
