When I try to run dbase.exe from the command prompt, I get the message,
"C:\WINDOWS\System32\autoexec.nt. The sytem file is not suitable for running
MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the
application."

Any suggestions about what I need to do to get dbase to run? It ran for a
few weeks on XP, but now this.

(I'm using Windows XP Home Edition.)

Have you tried running it under one of the compatibility options? Start\All
Programs\Accessories\Program Compatibility Wizard.

Beyond that, there's not much I can offer beyond dual booting with an OS
with which you know this will work and trying it on that OS. You should
realize, the Command Prompt is not true DOS, rather it is an emulation and
you may not get desired results from it. While there is DOS code in XP, it
is not built on DOS as the 9x versions were. The application may have been
borderline right from the beginning. Various other changes or updates, even
other applications you might have installed might have pushed it over the
edge.
