Can anyone advise why I always have db1.mdb, db2.mdb etc files in the same
location as my database. They seem to be backups of some form, but not sure
how or why they're created.

Is there a way to prevent this??

Thanks.

Deb

Those likely are the files that ACCESS creates when it compacts your
database. The fact that they're still there means that the compaction must
not have been successful.

It also is the default name of a new database that you want to create.

I believe you can also get these showing up when you don't have full
permissions on the folder, so the files, created in the compaction
process, can't be deleted.

I found occasionally, the compacting process will compact the database twice
and then leave db1.mdb & db2.mdb in the directory even though the compacting
is successful.

The best way is to make sure your database is working properly after compact
and simply delete them.
