DB Lock Errors

I'm using Access 2000. When one person is editing a form, no one else can
open the db. If that person stops editing , everything's ok. It appears
that Editing locks the
entire database, not just the particular table that the edit is occurring.

I would like for everyone to at least open the program , no matter who else
is in.

Any suggestions?

Jack,

Not very clear to me; do you mean someone's editing data through a form, or
the form per se, i.e. the design (quite unlikely)?

In the former case, that person needs to follow this menu path: Tools >
Options, tab Advanced, and select Default record locking > Edited record.

In the latter case: changing the design of the "live" copy of a multiuser
database is always a bad idea! One should make a copy to do the changes on,
and replace the "live" copy only when they are happy it's all OK. Even then,
experience says (and uncle Murphy agrees) that there's no such thing as
exhaustive testing beyond a certain level of complexity, so always keep a
backup copy of the original!

HTH,

NIkos
