Hi,
None of the Source online games from Valve will run on my lap top. I have
tried downloading Day of Defeat, Counter Strike and HL deathmatch, as well as
buying them on DVD.
They all install okay, and verfication says the install is good but the
..exes return you to desktop after changing the screen to a low resolution.
I have tried every suggestion on their support website. Valve has not
replied to any of my questions in customer support or to my tickets I
submitted.
I have also tried reinstalls of all these programs including Steam, as well
as turned off/checked firewalls/anti-virus. I have also tried reinstall of
directx 9.0c, my video card can run okay.

The only thing is a message saying that my video card drivers need updating
- but there no new driver has been issued for it.

Has anyone had similar problems with Source games, or know of any possible
fix for this? I would appreciate being able to run them having got them twice
over.

Spec: Fujitsu-Siemens D1840 notebook, 3ghz, 1gb ram, 128mb 9600 Radeon
mobility

I'm guessing the drivers from www.ati.com won't install - if you haven't
tried them do so - however I suspect they won't install.

In that case you could try the Omega drivers - these are 3rd party drivers,
not made by ATI, however it's probably the only solution left without going
to Fujitsu-Siemens and banging their heads together to get them to repackage
ATI's driver so it works on their system. These can be downloaded from

Thanks Paul,
This has fixed the problem. I think they may be driving my video card a
little harder than normal so I will reconfigure the settings. Thank God for
Omega. . .neither F-S or Valve seemed to think my questions to them warranted
a reply. Thanks again for this advice.
Regards,
Maurice.
