Task Manager shows CPU running at 25 to 28% load. NO applications are open
and the only things I know are in the start up are MS Office and Norton AV.
The CPU used to run at 1 to 2%. Is there any way I can track down what is
going on?

Thanks,
Dave Lamar

Task Manager is "showing" that no applications are active and that the sys
idle process is at 95 to 96 percent. That is not consistent with the CPU
load of 25%.

Any other suggestions??

PS: start-ups and shutdowns are also extremely slow.

Task manager will tell you. Look at what's in front of you.

Where, exactly, are you deriving the CPU load from? Is this what you
see in the status at the very bottom of the window labeled CPU Usage?

Q

Yes...Where task manager says "CPU Usage" on the performance tab.

How about the "Commit Charge"?...rather than CPU usage. Mine was running above 99% (i.e. the demand for memory resources was on the virge of exceeding memory available). I used to have 128 MB and it was as slow as mollasses - but after adding another 256 MB (384 MB total) I'm now running @ about 30% "Commit Charge" and the machine hasn't run faster!
