The date and time won't come up when I boot up. I get a request to run set up
but then the next time I boot up the date and time are way off. Is this a
common problem and what is the fix?

I am using Microsoft XP, home edition on a dell Dimension computer

Motherboard battery might be dying/dead and need replacing.

This is highly unlikely to be a Windows issue. Almost certainly, you
need to replace your motherboard battery, which keeps the time and
date correct while the system is powered off.
