i have imported video clips from my digital video camera using windows movie
maker. the 'date taken' field is blank on every video clip. however, i
checked my camera settings and the date is in fact set correctly.

what can i do so i know when each of these clips was filmed?

thanks for your help and advice!

thank you much, graham. what a helpful website.

although, i am having problems getting it to work--or, rather, it is
probably user error. i believe i am saving clip format incorrectly. forgive
my lack of knowledge, i really am very comfortable and better than average on
a pc (although i know it doesn't appear that way). however, video is new to
me and is so much different than anything i've done previously, that i feel
out of my league (as if i am an 80 year old trying to learn computers!).
there are just so many options, i can't seem to figure it all out.

anyway, i currently have all my video clips saved as wmv files in windows
movie maker. to use the new program (dvdate) you recommend, i published a
clip onto my pc as an avi file. it is a dvsd type 1 file and the program
cannot read the date of the video.

my goal is to date all my clips and then publish on my pc and on a dvd so i
can watch chapters/clips easily.

what file type should i be saving when i publish? perhaps i didn't do a
setting as i should have when i imported the clips from my video camera? i
can use whatever program you recommend and will re-do what i have done up to
this point if it will be easier going forward.

i am just looking for a little direction. i feel quite lost and i don't
know whom to turn to. i just want to see videos of my new baby :)

thanks!
