Date Formating wrong

when i type in 112003 and tell it to formate to date it changes it to
8/26/2206. ever date I enter change to something wirred. Help

For excel to recognise dates they must be typed as 01/01/2001 or 01-01-2001,
you cannot type 01012001. What you have is the date for the date serial
number you entered. Excel counts days as whole numbers starting at 1st Jan
1900 (day 1). Times are decimal of the whole number (12 noon is .5)
