Date format in Windows XP

When I boot into XP it is using the date format of the
motherboard, that is, mm/dd/yyyy and converting that to
the incorrect date.
Today (4 August, 2003), when I booted into XP it showed
the date in the taskbar as the 8 April, 2003.
Has anyone else had this problem?
Is there a fix for this?
